Reader Services Librarian

Grinnell College Libraries seek an individual of energy and initiative
who will coordinate and promote, within a dynamic and collaborative
library environment, information-literacy outreach and on-site reference
services.  Initial appointment will be at the rank of assistant professor.

Responsibilities include coordinating and publicizing the libraries
information-literacy and reference-service activities; teaching a
two-credit library research techniques course offered each semester; and
developing the reference collection of electronic and print resources.

All librarians at Grinnell College participate in reference-service
rotation, including evenings and weekends; teach in an active
information-literacy instruction program; select print and electronic
materials for the libraries’ collections; help to develop and maintain
the libraries’ website <http://www.lib.grinnell.edu>; serve as library
consultants to academic departments; and may supervise library support
staff in one or more areas.  Service to the profession of librarianship
and scholarly productivity are expected as a condition of reappointment
and/or promotion.

Requires: a graduate degree in librarianship from an ALA-accredited
institution; effective oral and written communication skills; strong
teaching skills and interest; ability to be effective and tactful in
meeting all elements of a campus community that makes heavy demands on
library services; and a preference for working in a collaborative
environment.   Desired: Demonstrated teaching and/or reference
excellence in a library setting.  Minimum salary: $42,000
