Stefanie,

I do the monthly lists myself, as it gives me an opportunity to see what's
come in, and check for any glaring cataloging mistakes, typos, etc. before
the new materials are "publicized". It takes me a couple of hours, as I
massage the lists, run them through PERL scripts, and copy-paste them into
preset templates. We don't exclude anything any more, although we used to
leave out dissertations and journals.

Copy-catalogers create the daily lists of journal receipts and the weekly
lists of new books received, as well as weekly lists of analytics records
created by special journal issues. These are much simpler, and are merely
text files that are linked from a main page by a date. We only keep these
lists for a month, as they get superseded by the monthly lists. It usually
takes them 15 minutes to a half-hour to put up these lists on the web,
depending on how long they are - once the lists have run, whose timing
depends on how big your own database is and how fast the processor is on
your machine.

All these lists are generated through the "Create Lists" in the Innopac,
then exported and loaded into the library's web pages. If you want to see

My main question in relation to new books lists is who does the work to
prepare these? Which department is responsible for it and what level of
staff do you have working on it? Also, can you estimate how much time
it takes to produce the list? Do you include all books processed in the
"new" period of time, including added volumes, gifts, and second copies?

The list has repeatedly discussed the mechanics of producing such a list
in various formats, but I've not seen much discussion of the staffing or
decision-making behind the list production.

Stefanie
