You don't have to empty your existing files, as long as you don't mind
adding your new files at the end - losing the ability to keep similar
sized files together. You would have to empty your existing files only
if you want to reconfigure your complete set of files.

We've purchased create list files on several occasions and are now up to
320!

You purchase create list files in sets of 40 records. In the past you
have to go through what can be a tortuous procedure of specifying
exactly how many records each file contains. The problem is that the
total number of records in the 40 files must be 625,000. So, if you
really wanted 25 files each holding 1000 records, then you'd have to
figure out how to split 600,000 records in the remaining 15 files.
Happily, III will now send you a list of the more commonly used file
configurations, so you don't have to work it out on your own - unless
you want a different configuration.

However, some/ all of this could be changing. One of the new [amazing!]
functions within the "Advanced System Administration Access" module in
Mil Administration is the ability of the library to reconfigure its own
Create List files. If I understand this correctly, you may now split up
your existing CL files into as many files you'd like, up to 1000 review
files. The number of records you have to play with depends on the
number of records in your existing CL configuration. You can only split
up or reconfigure an existing file only if it's empty. For example, if
you have an empty 60,000 record file, you can now split it into forty
1,500 record files. You've now gotten 40 'new' files without having to
purchase more!

Access to the ASAA function is only available to folks who have attended
III's specialized ASAA training and signed a letter of indemnification.
See the 'Workshops' area on CSDirect for a list of the next available
training sessions.

You may purchase additional review files. It
usually requires emptying all existing files and
selecting the number of files you want in the different
file sizes. We have done this a couple of times, and
you will find that they will all be in use soon after
you add the new ones!

Subject: Number of lists

All,

We have 80 lists available in the "create lists" function. For reasons
that baffle me, our staff feels that is not enough, especially since we
just opened a new branch. My question is, is the 80 list limit set in
stone or is that something we can ask III to increase? My instinct says

the 80 limit is not negotiable but I thought I'd ask.

Thanks again.
