- Subject: RE: BIP Downloading Bibs/Orders
Sorry this is so late ...
We have also been unsuccessful in having the Notes & Quantity
info transfer from BIP into INNOPAC using the Order Download feature.
Bowker says it isn't possible at the present time.
A Bowker rep told me that they turned my request into a PCS ...
a ticket with a set priority level. Perhaps if others added their
voices it would be bumped up to a higher priority.
In the meantime, acquisitoins has to manually add that info to
each order record, using downloaded .csv files that have that info in them.

Subject: RE: Media Vendors and BIP-Downloading bibs and orders
----------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for the info! We've just done a test of the BIP/Global Books in
Print download of bibs and orders. We downloaded a file from GBIP to an
FTP server in-house and then loaded it via READ/WRITE MARC RECORDS. The
records loaded fine, but one thing that is missing is the ability to add to
the GBIP records local information such as location, fund, selector, etc
which could then go into the order record (or even into the bib???). I
know that this is possible through OCLC, but has anyone found a way to do
it using BIP or GBIP (same thing)? We're trying to work out our workflow.
We've got many selectors who access GBIP to see if books are in print and
could then flag the chosen titles for download. At the end of each day,
someone would output the GBIP file and we hope to have a script process
those records and get them into Millenium. However, these selectors then
have to revisit these records either in Create a List or in Selection Lists
and add the appropriate information before the orders can go through
Acquisitions and out to the vendors... Has anyone out there found a
solution to this or a better workflow? We're also hoping to do this with
various vendors, so we would appreciate advice from anyone who has already
implemented such a workflow using either INNOPAC or Millenium. Thanks and
kind regards, Eeva

Some vendors (this is not, I'm sure an all-inclusive list!) who have such
capabilities are:
Blackwell North America
Ambassador Book Service (they do well with non-book media)
Yankee Book Peddler
I've been using them for e-ordering as well as for e-invoicing, and I
believe that all three have a vendor-based utility where one can download
bibs or short bibs from them as part of the ordering process. You can also
download records from BIP as well as from OCLC for the same purposes.
A word of caution, however, load tables are important in this sort of
transaction, and I believe that for at least the invoicing part of this you
need the Extended Approval Plan Interface (but you don't necessarily need it
to download and e-order).

Please copy responses to the list! We too are looking for such vendors (ANY
vendors that offer this service for ANY materials)! We're just now working
with Global Books in Print to download orders (we use them as a selection
tool) and we know that BNS is offering their selection lists with brief Marc
records, and we're just about to test both! Thanks for asking the question
and for any advice and experience that comes our way! Eeva
