We're a former DRA Classic site which migrated on Easter weekend.
My first inclination is to just say "ditto" to the two responses in this
email because the migration was different than I had expected. But, in
the cool clear light of day, it wasn't as bad as I remembered it after a
16-hour training day, or after changing my work day so I was in the
office until 9pm est for the better part of a year.
If I could do it again, I'd:
Add 6 months to the migration schedule
Listen to the project coordinator when she says limit training to 6
decision makers
Keep the internal project team on task and resolve internal workflow
issues before the trainer arrives on site. It's hard to explain, but at
some points you're doing two or three things at once: testing data,
reevaluating circ parameters, evaluating tech services workflows. So
it's less of a straight line and more of a GANT chart.
OK. We love the product. Circ is easy; we're solving tech services
problems, and have more data available to us than we know what to do
with.
I'd like to automate some of my administration tasks, but I'm slowly
working in that direction.

Hi-
You may find the e-mail from III list serve interesting. To me, the
issues
addressed about no vendor reps on site, other than trainer; too much
training in too little time [and without the benefit of having a look at
the
working components]; and the need to question and request changes, just
perfectly captures our experience. I also found it interesting to note
that
we were not the only ones led to believe that this was a completely web
based interface, when in fact only the OPAC is a web based interface.

We are in final migration from DRA Classic. My librarians love the
product.
Admin functions are pretty bad. We expected a web based system for
everything and this did not live up to our expectations. The Opac is
web
based and the other interfaces and client/server. Admin is character
based
but they are making changes. We are hoping for more improvements.
Phase
III helped.
Get on top of the implementation process early. It is all done remotely
so
you never really see anyone except your trainer. This is disconcerting
for
us as we have implemented other systems and always had a vendor team on
site. We have a project team here and keep everyone going forward.
Question what you think is wrong or could be done better. Set up a
project
team for your site and align them with III's team. Have regular
meetings.
Also - review training agendas and request more time. Too much in too
little time.
Feel free to contact me off list for more info.
Good luck
