Public Library Director.  The Council Bluffs Public Library, Council Bluffs, Iowa is seeking applications for the position of Director.  The Council Bluffs Public Library is accredited by the State Library of Iowa and is located in a beautiful new facility, which is three times the size (67,500 square feet) of the previous Carnegie Library.   The library serves a progressive community that is extremely supportive of the library, its programs and the new facility.  Council Bluffs is a community of 58,000 people.  The current leadership has initiated efforts to expand the usage of the library and to have it increase its function as a community center.  The library has worked closely with major initiatives related to local history.  There is major support for the current levels of technology use in the operations of the library and it continues to be one of the long-term priorities for the program.  

The Friends of the Library organization and the Library Foundation work in cooperation with the Director and the Library Board of Trustees to provide continuing and important support to library programs.

The qualifications for any applicant include an MLS in Library Science from an approved ALA library school program, five (5) or more successful experience in public library administrative positions with increasing levels of responsibility.   The new Director will need to continue the leadership in areas such as the expansion of library usage, growth of technology, growth of the collection, the development of funding sources, effectively communicating with the general public and effectively work with a variety of community agencies and organizations.

The Director is selected by the Library Board of Trustees and is accountable to them for leadership provided to the programs.  The Director administers an equivalent of twenty four (24) professional and paraprofessional staff.  The Board offers a competitive beginning salary range ($65,250 - $71,900 DOQ) along with a complete benefits package.
