We found that installation went more smoothly if we totally removed the old Millennium (using add/remove programs and also deleting any stray files or folders) before we installed the new.
One odd problem we had happened when I was logged on as "Administrator" to install the new Java. If I tried to open Millennium then, just to make sure it worked, then logged out and logged on as a user, I would get an error message when trying to open Millennium. If I went on faith that it would work and didn't open Millennium while logged in as Administrator, the user was able to open it just fine. I never understood exactly why this happened, but once I saw the pattern I just avoided doing it that way. The III person indicated it had something to do with the user not having permission to access some files that were created by opening Millennium with the Administrator login first.
Good luck to all of you who are installing the upgrade!

We've found that you can just remove the Java 1.3 with add/remove
programs. When all else fails I've removed everything and started from
scratch. Our experience was spotty with clients hanging--some did and
some didn't with no apparent pattern. And, we had to go and clean up
some of our old NT4 workstations where the 2gig partition was full.
I've been waiting for something on the list to confirm I wasn't alone in
this. My own workstations hung Sunday afternoon right after the upgrade
so we were prepared to fix the problem on Tuesday.

sigh, I sure wish I'd known about that #3 before it started happening
here.
