- Subject: Sending Millennium ILL requests to other systems
Open Letter to III IUG ListServ and Millennium ILL users:
Our Consortium has been using Triple I’s Millennium ILL Module for about a
year and a half. We are currently hoping to begin lending to other
Minnesota libraries using the statewide Fretwell Downing VDX system by
September of this year.
However, we are reluctant to use the VDX system for borrowing. The main
reason is the lack of an interface between Millennium and VDX. Millennium
can map our patron requests into the OCLC Review file, or email requests to
a lender, which saves staff the efforts of re-keying requests. Millennium
ILL also interfaces with the Circulation system to check books out to our
patrons and generate notices. Staff would need to re-key Millennium
initiated requests into the VDX system to take advantage of borrowing
through VDX.
Our main questions and issues:
Can Innovative set up Millennium ILL so that we would be able to “Acquire”
patron requests into another system besides OCLC, such as VDX?
Have any other consortia users talked to III about increasing their ISO
standards to include true ISO interchange rather than just message
exchange? We understand there are approximately 26 possible ISO standards,
and as far as we know, III uses 1, making their system ISO compliant.
Thank you for any help you can give us,
