- Subject: CANCEL ALL HOLDS button - bad news;good news
IUG LIstServ
A week or two ago there was a discussion regarding how to take it into our
own hands and remove/realign the CANCEL ALL HOLDS button.
One suggestion was to align it to the right to lessen the chance of patrons
seeing it ; the other was to remove it entirely. I removed it and let III
know. They warned me that there might be some bad consequences. There were
some REALLY BAD consequences. 3 patrons had their holds disappear for no
reason, sometimes by just clicking on the title. I also just learned from
III that aligning the button to the right is equally problematic (see
below). That's the bad news.
Here's the good news. A product manager at III has given me permission to
share this with the IUG regarding Release 2003. This was after I mentioned
I was thinking about aligning the button to the right
"Unfortunately, changing alignment is prone to the same problem. The BUT_
wwwoptions are accepting a value for a single attribute (src) of the img
tag. When you append a second attribute & value as part of the definition,
things get pretty confused.
I'm pleased to announce, however, that with the 2003 release you will be
able to hide the Cancel All Holds button entirely. Also, based on the wise
advice of the IUG members, this button will be suppressed by default for
newly configured sites beginning with that release.
Please feel free to pass this news on to the folks on the IUG list.
