- Subject: Re: Patron Barcode Check Digits
This past summer a "one-card" system was rolled out here at Mills. We
use Banner (SCT) for student records. We gave information about the
calculations involved in the generation of the check digit, from
CSdirect, to our Banner programer and she was add code to generate the
barcodes in Banner. (She also used the same file format/ information
that is used for our patron load to pass student/ staff information to
the one-card system.) The barcodes are printed on the back of the new
student IDs. We are inputting the new barcodes in the student records
and keeping the old barcodes around until everyone has the new cards.
This was manly due to the fact that the implementation did not complete
until the day before students arrived.
So far so good. We will be making changed in the next year to accept
the barcodes in the patron load, this will eliminate the need to input
the barcodes in new patron records.
