In "Release 2003, that allows the library to select the status codes that
are
to be blocked from checkout at self-check. All statuses not selected will
be allowed to check out." (The beta test library) is blocking "!" (on
hold shelf) and "o" (library use only) at this time, allowing items with any
other status to go out if the patron presents it to a self-check
station. The library has been using this in production at their branches
for about a month now, and at their new main library for about two weeks.
Barbara went on to say that III will need to set this up but basically it is
part of Release 2003 so it would be available next year.

Subject: 3M self-checkout and status
We have been using a special item status to designate books on our new book
shelves, but have run into the problem that the 3M self-checkout machine we
have will only accept the status '-'. Has anyone been able to get a 3M
machine to work with a status other than '-'? (possibly by using a more
sophisticated machine, or getting III to set something up?)
Failing that, we are willing to consider alternative ways of designating our
new books. However, location would be problematic because we have several
permanent locations and we would want to be able to rapid update the change.
A recent thread on this topic (April 2003) indicated other options, such as
Reserve module and OPAC message. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
