Case Western Reserve University

The University Library is a model information provider committed to 
excellence and providing collections of physical and virtual information 
resources and innovative information services. The library is a member of 
the Association of Research Libraries, the Center for Research Libraries 
and is a founding member of the Ohio Library and Information Network 
consortium, OhioLINK. The Library is seeking two innovative, creative and 
future-oriented professionals to join its staff.
Metadata Librarian Level II or III, Library Information Resources (Position 
#3194)
The librarian in this position applies knowledge of concepts and 
applications used in standards and practices of organizing information to 
develop, plan, and lead the integration of metadata use and practices 
throughout the library. This employee works under the general supervision 
of the Coordinator for Bibliographic Access and Electronic Cataloguing. 
Responsibilities: Coordinates creation of metadata for image, audio, 
numeric and text based digital objects. Works with the University Library 
technical staff to develop mechanisms for incorporating metadata into 
digital objects acquired, stored and presented in the University Digital 
Library. Performs original and copy cataloguing by providing description 
and complex subject analysis for a variety of electronic and digital 
resources using OCLC as the cataloguing utility, AACR II, LC Subject 
Headings, LC Classification, MARC21 formats and other standard cataloguing 
tools. Collaborates with other library and other campus units/departments 
in defining and using metadata for digital objects developed in the Library 
as well as outside the Library so as to be included in the Digital Library 
collections. Maintains a strong and active presence in professional 
activities related to metadata standards. Works independently using 
analytical and problem solving skills, collegially and effectively in a 
cooperative environment. Qualifications: ALA accredited Masters degree in 
Library or Information Science required. Cataloguing experience, including 
experience with AACR2, LC Classification, LCSH, LCRI, OCLC, and a local 
integrated library system. Ability to work in a complex environment with a 
diverse user group; strong verbal and written skills; and knowledge of 
library information technology. For Level 3, experience with metadata 
standards such as: EAD, TEl, Dublin Core, VRA Core, RDF, CIDOC required. 
Experience with HTML or XML. Level 3 requires 5 years of Library technical 
experience. Level 2 requires 3 years experience. Experience in a highly 
automated academic library setting is highly recommended.
Coordinator of Information Services Librarian Level III, Library 
Information Resources (Position #3081)
Under the direction of the Deputy Director, the librarian in this position 
provides leadership and expertise in numeric and spatial data services and 
serves as a member of information service teams providing collection 
management, reference services and information literacy instruction in a 
flexible, dynamic, service-oriented, collegial, organization. 
Responsibilities: Responsible for leading, shaping and directing the Center 
for Statistics and Geospatial Data, including GIS (Geographic information 
Systems) and other numeric data programs at University Library. Establishes 
and maintains close working partnerships with teaching faculty and 
community leaders in order to: 1) identify emerging services and 
instructional needs; 2) aggressively market library services and resources; 
and 3) undertake assessments of service quality. Serves as a science and 
engineering subject specialist with collection management and reference 
responsibilities. Builds and maintains working collections provides 
document delivery options and uses information technologies to support 
teaching and research conducted at CWRU. Responsible for leading, shaping 
and directing a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and numeric data 
program at University Library. Qualifications: ALA accredited Masters of 
Library Science is required. Advanced degree in subject related area is 
preferred. Teaching experience or coursework dealing with classroom 
instructional techniques and theories. Minimum 2 years experience in 
delivering consultation services and using networked resources is required. 
Experience in designing and maintaining web pages is required. Minimum 2 
years collection management experience, knowledge of budgetary processes, 
and experience with automated library systems in an academic library is 
preferred. Minimum 5 years relevant post MLS experience in a reference or 
public services position in an academic library is required. Knowledge of 
GIS software, including Arc View and/or other GIS and statistics software. 
Knowledge of spatial data, databases, data structures and metadata 
standards. Knowledge of instructional uses of data.
