We still have an old-fashioned periodical list. We want to update
patron's access to this information, but we first want to know if
Innopac libraries are using indexing of their Innopac to skirt around a
need for a periodical list, and how? I had hoped to provide a journal
index on our webpac, but can't see how to do so.

Certainly patrons can search our catalog for a cited periodical title.
If we have the title, hopefully they're looking for the current version
of the title, so they can find the title (we shelve periodicals by
current title, unclassified). If not, and the bib record is up to date,
hopefully they'll notice what the title has changed to.

Unfortunately, if the title has since had two or more title changes
this method is unlikely to lead a non-librarian to the location of the
title. Often bib records for the new versions of titles link back to
the immediately former title, but the former title's bib neglects to get
updated to lead patron to newer version.

Our separate periodical list brings much of this data together, through
the date it was last updated.

We may have to consider classifying our periodicals to help patrons
locate older variations of titles in the future, in order to avoid
having a periodical list.

Just wondering what other Innopac libraries are doing as we approach
updating our periodical list or completely changing our ways.

Thanks,
Melanie
