We have experienced a similar problem for a certain number of licensed
databases. We use the III proxy rewrite method.
However we do not have a slowness problem with the WebOPAC. It works fine.
Because of the slowness problem with licensed databases accessed thru the WAM
rewrite proxy, we have decided to create a separate database in PHP/MySQL which
contains all our web pages about our licensed database. If the user comes from
within our institution IPs they are presented with a URL that is not proxied.
If the user comes from outside our institution we give them the WAM proxy
rewrite URL.
This means that our internal users do not experience the slowness problem, but
our remote users may. Also it means that stats collected by the WAM only
reflects remote connexions.
We should be launching our PHP/MySQL database application by next week.
This is how we get around this problem. At least for our internal users.
The idea of presenting a different URL for external and internal users was an
idea that we got only when we discovered the slowness problem of the rewrite
proxy with certain licensed databases.
