I was playing a bit with this tonight and think there might be a way to have a bit more control of the button for cancel all holds.  While it is clear from the discussion tonight that the idea scenario includes being able to control the existence of this button, I thought of a little trick that might make this work a bit better in the interim.
 
With the WWWOption line that lets you identify an icon to replace the Javascript string, we can move the new icon around a bit.  I do not have a screen shot to demonstrate this, but I created an icon as follows:

My original design was bright...but the opposite tact is really needed here...so it blends into the background.  What I did to make it a little less noticeable is to move it from the left side (with the Cancel Selected Items) and moved to to the Right of the screen.  The way I did that was to make a slight modification to the WWWOption line as follows:
 
BUT_PAT_CANCELALL=/screens/bn_cancel_all.gif" ALIGN="RIGHT  
 
The System adds the close quotes, so the HTML looks like this:

What this does is move the button away from what I believe to be the focus of the screen.  This way, maybe people will not click the wrong button and discover that their removal of one request for a Harry Potter book actually tossed out the entire Series of Unfortunate Events.  
 
I can send a screen print to those who are interested in seeing what this looks like, but this may go pretty far in differentiating between the cancel all and cancel selected holds buttons.  This also may be the tip of the iceberg in the programming that people can use to fine tune the Webpac.  We are on Release 2002, Phase 3 beta, but I imagine that this would work on Phase 2 without problem.  
 
Hey it is food for thought and it allowed me to procrastinate on two projects.
 
On a related note, Mieko and I will be sending out information on the Enhancements process for the new year shortly.  I was going to this weekend by had a bit of a problem with the power...

	The CANCEL ALL button is entirely misleading and we would LOVE to have it
	gone forever.  Personally, I can't think of one situation when anyone
	would want to cancel all their holds.  If for some odd reason they do, it
	is very easy to select all holds and hit the CANCEL SELECTED HOLDS button.
	We have asked III to get rid of this button every time we have a customer
	complaint.  Granted, few customers call to complain but the ones who do
	are livid.  I don't know how many are out there silently fuming.
	
	We tried to change the size of the button to 1 pixel X 1 pixel but a click
	happy customer could still find it.  We've thought of naming the button
	"Don't click here" but decided against it.  I would suggest a skull and
	crossbones with the message "Click here and ALL your holds will die."
