I'd like to follow up on this problem. I am not sure if this came with the
last III upgrade or with my re-loading of CJK records in preparation for
III's CJK module since these two things happend close in time:
Our Web OPAC now has problems displaying foreign language charactes, and it
does things unpredicatably. For example, when I search for "Über den ... ",
I get strange characters, because my default setting is Western (this is
because I search more often in FirstSearch, and Firstsearch does not
display German in Unicode, only in Western) and III's OPAC doesn't consider
German as a Western language. If I then click on a title in the browse
display, it sometimes switches automatically to Unicode and it's OK, but
sometimes it switches to another Western code, and I get other strange
characters, and sometimes it doesn't switch at all. I am still talking
about the same search, there is no pattern I can recognize.
We also received complaints from faculty who all of a sudden had problems
displaying foreign language titles.

Did anyone else have the same problems and what had caused them? Is there a
fix for them or do we just have to toggle between codings? I am a little
concerned about how bad it may get as soon as we have the CKJ module set
up. But mayby this will fix all the other problems?

Thanks for any help.

Michaela

- File a ticket with Innovative. We had the same problem. One day it was
- working and the next day it wasn't. Also, if you have multiple East
- Asian languages, check them all out. For a while we had Chinese working,
- but it took Innovative several months to fix Korean. -- Howard
