Mieko is right about posting, but we don't think this is a good reason
for not being able to change status using rapid or global update. Like
others, we create review files of order records that we want to change
(usually to cancel) and use a script to change status of each one. Of
course cancelling orders affects the encumbrance (that's why we're
usually doing this-- to free up money) and you do need to post to see
this take affect, but that's true whether you cancel them as a batch or
individually.
Having an option to use rapid and global update on the status field of
order records was an enhancement request this year. In my opinion, this
is one of those things that the system should do, so we don't all have
to write scripts and come up with workarounds to do this, or, worse,
have staff people waste time changing the status of large batches of
order records individually.
