At Ferris, we allow faculty/staff to check out books for an academic year.
I am not sure that this will help you decide, but we found it very helpful
to send a reminder BEFORE the books were due.   You see, they forget that
they checked out library material after such a long time.
Also, we must see them to renew them "for inventory and conservation" so we
know that they actually have the items.
