We use the create list function in a variety of ways. Here are some of the ways that our circulation department uses this function:

1. To find out all the patron records who owe money
2. To make a list of all faculty check out to go hunt them down
3. To make a list to check the shelf for items marked as missing, to make sure they are really missing and not missed placed
4. To make a list of all current Alumni's by patron type

These are just some I could think of now, but I'm sure we use this function regularly for many other reasons.

Hope this helps

Subject:	Re: Benefits of Create List?

We use it in a variety of ways in Sarasota. Two ways we use on a daily basis are as follows:

We find that since our patrons are often changing addresses, so we often search by looking for
phone numbers.
We usually do this when a patron has called and either said that they don't have anything overdue
or that they don't have a library card at all and the TNS has called their number.

Also, if the TNS reports that a number is no longer is service. I look for the number and then
block the patron's card until we receive a new phone number.

Another minor way is when our email overdues come back with a wrong email address, we use it to
block the patron's card and ask for a new email address.

Database maintenance is always on-going.

I'm interested in knowing how various types of librarians (eg.
collection development, catalogers, etc.) utilize the create list
function in their work.
I am in the process of preparing a regional conference presentation and
would like to be able to offer a variety of examples as to how create
list may be used to assist in job related tasks. Any examples will be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Nicole
