PRIMARY DUTIES:   This position is responsible for administering library 
computer systems in a multi-campus environment, including the College's 
integrated library system, web servers, and interfaces to other College 
computer systems and external database systems. This position also 
manages the cataloging function, databases, and provides system support 
to library activities, services, and staff; manages, supervises, and 
monitors staff performance; and, provides technical support to the 
training of students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

The typical duties and responsibilities include: manage library computer 
systems, including online catalogue of holdings for all campuses, other 
sub-systems of the integrated library system, two web servers, and 
interfaces to external databases, systems, and College-wide relational 
database; direct, oversee, and participate in developing work plans for 
automated systems, cataloging, and database management; selects, trains, 
assigns reviews the work of, and evaluates staff, and makes hiring, 
promotion, and termination recommendations; assign work activities, 
projects, and processes, evaluate workflow, and assess methods 
procedures, and processes for improvement and efficiency; develop and 
implement copy, adjusted, and original cataloging and classification 
procedures for all formats following international standards; direct, 
oversee, and participate in database maintenance activities; identify, 
evaluate, and recommend cost-effective solutions to maintain and improve 
cataloging, database management, and automated system support functions; 
manage the development of procedures to ensure the integrity of the 
library system; direct the development of policies and procedures that 
relate to effective integration, management, and use of library systems; 
implement appropriate security measures for all databases, files, and 
licensed external databases; establish, monitor, and evaluate procedures 
and standards for all records in the library system, ensuring that they 
conform to all international and networking standards; develop codes and 
parameters files for campus libraries on the automated system; perform 
related duties including , but not limited to, committee participation 
and leadership, providing fiscal information and forecasting of needed 
resources for Library Services budget development; vendor 
relationships/interaction, coordination of library systems activities 
with other College departments, report generation of Library activities 
to include interpretation and analysis of data, Library web site 
interface and organization.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:  Automated library operations for a multi-campus system; 
principles, procedures, and practices associated with the cataloging 
function of technical services; principles and practices of 
organization, administration, project management, personnel management, 
budget preparation, forecasting, and management; generally accepted and 
international standards in cataloging and bibliographic database 
management, such as AACR2, USMARC, LCSH, LC classification, and LC rule 
interpretation; web design, usability, and accessibility standards and 
practices related to delivery of digital information; computer software, 
hardware, and peripherals such as Microsoft Office, Adobe, Powerterm, 
CD-ROMs; statistical methods for analysis and interpretation of user 
data, collection development, and accessibility studies;

Ability to:  : Plan, organize, and direct complex library technical 
services operations such as cataloging, database management, and 
automated systems support; analyze problems, identify alternative 
solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement 
recommendations in support of goals; provide technical expertise and 
direction to end-users and Library Services staff; manage complex 
relationships with bibliographic utilities, networks, and vendors; use 
Innovative Interfaces Millennium product including the web opac, 
acquisitions, circulation, and serials modules; select, train, evaluate, 
and manage the performance of staff; prepare and analyze complex 
statistical reports and records; monitor expenditures and forecast 
resources needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; 
communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish 
and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in 
the course of work including all groups within a diverse, multicultural 
community.

Training/Experience:  Master's Degree in Library Science or Library 
Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university, and 2 
years of appropriate experience; or, an equivalent combination of 
education and experience sufficient for successful performance of the 
essential duties of this position.

OTHER INFORMATION:    This is an Exempt position as defined by the Fair 
Labor Standards Act. Candidates are responsible for their own travel 
expenses at any stage of the screening process.

METHOD OF EVALUATION:  Required application materials will be screened 
on the basis of criteria listed in this announcement. Those candidates 
who have been determined to be the best qualified, based on screening of 
the application materials, will move forward to the next phase in the 
selection process. (Meeting those criteria does not guarantee moving 
forward from paper screening to the next phase.) The next phase or any 
subsequent phases may include interview, a skills test, and/or other 
job-related assessment. Ratings will be assigned at each phase of the 
selection process.

INITIAL SCREENING CRITERIA:    Please answer the following criteria 
specifically on a separate sheet of paper. These criteria will be used 
with your other application materials to screen applicants for 
invitation to the interview phase. Failure to submit a specific answer 
to each of these criteria will result in an incomplete application 
packet. Applicants should submit at least one well-developed paragraph 
for each of the criteria listed below.

    1. Describe your experience in the planning, developing, and 
implementation of goals and objectives for the technical services 
function, including cataloging and system administration. Include in 
your answer goals and objectives which you successfully planned and 
implemented.
    2. Describe your experience in working with automated systems 
including cataloging systems as well as delivery of external or internal 
database information. Describe your direct experience with Innovative 
Interfaces and OCLC.
    3. Describe your knowledge and experience with statistical analysis 
related to public access. Describe what you have collected and how you 
have used the data.
    4. Relate experiences of researching and resolving complex 
automation issues involving cataloging systems and web delivery of 
database information.
    5. Describe your education, experience, and/or training in 
implementing, managing, and monitoring successful automated cataloging 
services.
