Are you talking about the ability for patrons to see when searching the
Web OPAC that specific items have holds or bookings on them?

For example:

http://library.bangor.ac.uk/record=b1317984
shows an item currently checked out with one hold

http://library.bangor.ac.uk/bookit/frameset&i1139438&back=.b1103212/.b1103212/1,1,1,B/frameset~1103212
shows an item with a booking for future use (dates shown in red).
