I have solved my own problem by changing the field specs from <!--{linkfieldspec:VbT}--> to <!--{linkfieldspec:Vbt}-->, i. e., change the big T to small t. That solves the truncation problem. The full title will show. Now it will just take the first t tag, and that is fine with us.
Thanks.

Briefcit.html works different, so the 66 character limit doesn't apply.
You can specify fields and subfields that you want to display, for
example, author, title and subtitle, and publisher. This is a huge
improvement over the old keyword results screen!
Briefcit will display for all types of searches when the system displays a
list of matching records rather than an index list. As far as I know,
there's no way to have the system always bypass the index list and go
directly to matching records, unfortunately.
