We have been using SFX for a few years now... We started using it before
WebBridge existed, so we haven't bought the latter.

You don't have to contact each vendor when you use SFX. Part of what you
get with the purchase of the product is access to a common database that is
updated monthly with all the customers' links, so you don't necessarily have
to "reinvent the wheel".

Our acquisitions librarian is on his way to ALA, and he's my local expert on
SFX. But he may be monitoring his email while he's gone, so I'll cc him on
this reply.

In the interim, you can always contact our SFX team directly through
sfx@xxxxxxxxxx for more detailed answers.

Subject: RE: Innopac and SFX customers

As far as I can tell the products could not work together. As part of the
implementation of the product you need to contact each openurl database
source vendor and give them the url of your openurl server target. The
server url is what enables a source such as Ebsco to work with SFX or
Webbridge. My guess is that two different servers would pose problems and
even if the source could handle it, the users would be very confused.

One of the issues with SFX is that the Innopac is not openurl enabled as a
source and Innovative does not offer this option excepts to customers of
its Webbridge or Metafind products. If you wanted to openurl enable your
Innopac as a source, you would be much better off purchasing the Metafind
product. I don't know of anyone using Metafind and SFX. From an
administration standpoint, it would likely be easier to work with either
the two Innovative products or the two ExLibris products. -- Howard
