I can't provide the direct info you seek, but I can tell you that the iii
offline circ provided in 2002 phase 1 is spectacularly unsuited for anything
other than backup circ because it is not interactive with the patron files
in Milcirc or loan rule tables. While not perfect, (our) 3M self-check (and
Codeco's) uses a SIP2 interface to interact with loan rules, patron blocks,
etc. that live circ uses during checkout. Yes, you do pay iii a fee
($2000??) in addition to the cost of the self-check machine) for each SIP2
device you connect to iii. With offline circ you must set the due date for
each item or group of items you check out. Someone can check out reference
materials, videos, books etc all for the same loan period. I don't think
you want the public making up their own checkout rules, assuming they could
figure out how to do it in the first place. That's probably why 3M can
charge upwards of $27k for a model 7210 which is obscene.

I've searched the archives but what I found is a couple years old so...
Is anyone doing self-checkout/in without the "official" III module or a
dedicated machine such as 3M? I was wondering if someone found some type of
work-around maybe using the Millennium offline circ module or ?
