Web Services Librarian
Appalachian State University Libraries seek a talented, innovative Web
Services
Librarian to take the lead in further developing the library's web
presence to better
serve the curricular and scholarly needs of the university community.
Working
collaboratively in a team-based environment, the Web Services Librarian
will be a
catalyst for advancing the library's web-based projects, overseeing web
site design
and consistency, promoting web standards, and coordinating ongoing
usability
assessment. The Web Services Librarian will serve as a member of the
Reference
and Instruction Team, providing services at the reference desk
(including evening
and weekend hours) and participating in the library's information
literacy program.
Other duties include leading the library-wide Web Committee,
collaborating closely
with the Systems and Automation Team, and serving on the Patron and Web
Services Committee of the Western North Carolina Library Network.
Qualifications: ALA-accredited Master's degree, demonstrated
understanding of
academic library services and resources and the role of technology in
providing
information services, demonstrated ability to develop and maintain
high-quality web
sites, demonstrated knowledge of how people use web-based information,
demonstrated ability to provide reference and instructional services,
excellent
written and oral communication skills, and strong consensus-building
skills.
Appalachian State University is located in the historic college town of
Boone, in the
beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The university has an enrollment of
14,500 students
and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 200 majors.
The
Library has an overall budget of $5.6 million, with 29 faculty and 40
staff positions.
Library holdings include more than 812,000 books and bound periodicals,
over
4,700 current periodical, newspaper, and serial titles, 1.4 million
microforms, and a
significant commitment to electronic resources. Appalachian is a
constituent
institution of the University of North Carolina, a member of SOLINET,
and a
member of the Western North Carolina Library Network, a consortium of
three
state universities sharing an Innovative Interfaces, Inc. system and
document
