Setting up the Amazon link

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]
At my IUG presentation on Millennium Create Lists, I showed a list of
things that can be done from the Bib/Item screen:
http://www.noblenet.org/swapshop/lists/record.htm

One of the things we're using is a link to Amazon. If the bib record on
the screen has an ISBN, the "Review: Amazon" link is available.
Clicking on this link does an ISBN search on Amazon and brings up the
browser to Amazon's listing for that ISBN, if they have one. We love
having this access to more information about books, especially when
we're working on things like replacements and booklists.

Several people at the sessions wanted more information on how we set
this up, which was embarrassing because I was a little hazy on the
details, and others have written to me since then. So here's what I
know about this, and how it's set up on our system. There may be other
ways to do this, or other issues involved, and you may need to contact
III for more information. My understanding is that all libraries get
one free link like this, and that anything additional requires
WebBridge, which we don't own.

We set up the link through MilAcq, choosing Web Links from the Admin
menu. The entry has the following information--

Display name: Amazon
URL: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/<ISBN>
Display: y
Type: r

Once that was set up, we just needed to turn on the display in the
various clients (MilCirc, MilCat, etc.) through Settings-- it's Bib
Display-->Show URL Links.

See it:

The only reference that I can find to this in the Manual is in MilAcq,
Page # 100808.

And that's all I know on this. Good luck with it-- I couldn't live
without this.
