Having just returned from IUG in San Jose (thanks to the organizers for
a GREAT job!), I was thinking of the following:

It was a great meeting, with great programs and presenters, and the
facilities were great too. However, I was the only person from my
organization to attend this year due to distance and expense. I found it
very difficult to decide which sessions to attend as there was always
MORE than one of interest in each time slot.

With 1100 attendees this year, it seems as though it might be time to
think about the feasibility, of perhaps splitting into two groups
(organizational nightmare, I know). This was my 5th IUG, and each year
it gets more and more crowded in the sessions, more chaotic trying to
get hotel rooms, and more expensive for organizations to send people. I
felt there was so much good stuff this year, It would have been great to
have been able to have several staff people attend. The issue of the
overcrowded sessions of course is easy to deal with via the
pre-conference surveys, but some of the sessions I was in were way too
overcrowded (maybe program session pre-registration?).

Again- thanks to the folks who did a great job on a very successful
meeting!
