For us, it was mostly a matter of pulling data from fields that were 
otherwise unavailable.

For instance, our microform periodicals have the same location as our bound 
periodicals, and we attach both bound and microform items to the same 
bibliographic record.  The only place where we differentiate between bound 
and microform items is in the MIDSPINE field, where we put the text "film" 
or "fiche" in the microform items.

We wanted separate counts for bound and microform periodicals, but we could 
not base statistics on the MIDSPINE field using Create STATISTICAL 
Reports.  (Or at least, we couldn't figure out how.)  Things may have 
changed since then, I don't know.
