For us, it was mostly a matter of pulling data from fields that were
otherwise unavailable.
For instance, our microform periodicals have the same location as our bound
periodicals, and we attach both bound and microform items to the same
bibliographic record. The only place where we differentiate between bound
and microform items is in the MIDSPINE field, where we put the text "film"
or "fiche" in the microform items.
We wanted separate counts for bound and microform periodicals, but we could
not base statistics on the MIDSPINE field using Create STATISTICAL
Reports. (Or at least, we couldn't figure out how.) Things may have
changed since then, I don't know.
