Janine,
Create lists helps immensely! You have to run
multiple lists on large collections or use one list
and keep clearing it out as you go.
This is how I go about getting a total item count on
my collection: 1) empty all the 60,000 files on
create lists, 2) run a list counting items, when it
stops, 3) go Display records on terminal, and 4) go to
last record in list to get it's item record number.
If my last item record number is i10109183, I'd start
another list (do "\" to run a list on a range) with
i1010919a. After filling up all the 60,000 files,
I'll write down the number of records, clear my files,
and repeat until the collection is counted.
Getting format counts depends on how your system is
coded. If your formats are coded in itype, it is easy
to do. Otherwise, you'll probably have to work with
the format codes in the bib records (not as easy).
If you're attending IUG, there are two groups of us
presenting on collection development statistics--one
focusing on public libraries and another on academic.
