Oupps! I made a mistake...

For those who are interested in this topic. I made a mistake in my reply when I mention our PHP/MySQL database. (I was typing too fast). Please read:

If the user connects from off campus we will provide a proxied URL to the user; otherwise if they connect from within the campus IP range they will get a non-proxy URL.

Sorry!

Hi everyone,

At Concordia University Libraries (Montreal) we are experiencing the same problem.

Due to the performance problem of the Innovative proxy rewrite (at least we seem to think that it is caused by the proxy rewrite) we have decided to provide 2 URLs for the databases that caused serious problems. We provide a non-proxy URL for local access and a proxy URL for off-campus.  See for example how we implemented this http://library.concordia.ca/collections/abi.html
It seems that not all our databases experience that slowness.

At the moment we are building a PHP/MySQL database web application that will replace out static HTML pages. This application will detect from where the connection comes from. If it comes from off campus we will provide a non-proxy URL to the user; otherwise they will get the proxy URL. We have decided to do that due to the performance problem of the proxied URLs.

I would also be interested in hearing from other sites if they experience a similar problem.

Subject: Slowness of Proxied Pages

Please let me know if you have experienced the following and what, if any, remedy you found.
Ever since we started using proxy rewrite there has been extreme slowness in drawing screens, browsing from one set of records to another, and downloading full text files.
The slowness does not happen when linking directly, i.e., non-proxied links.
Any suggested solution would be appreciated, as there has been no resolution from Innovative to my trouble report call placed over one month ago.
Thank you.
