Hi everyone,
At Concordia University Libraries (Montreal) we are experiencing the same problem. Due to the performance problem of the Innovative proxy rewrite (at least
we seem to think that it is caused by the proxy rewrite) we have decided
to provide 2 URLs for the databases that caused serious problems. We provide
a non-proxy URL for local access and a proxy URL for off-campus.
See for example how we implemented this http://library.concordia.ca/collections/abi.html
At the moment we are building a PHP/MySQL database web application that will replace out static HTML pages. This application will detect from where the connection comes from. If it comes from off campus we will provide a non-proxy URL to the user; otherwise they will get the proxy URL. We have decided to do that due to the performance problem of the proxied URLs. I would also be interested in hearing from other sites if they experience a similar problem. Jean-Marc Edwards
