We have a variable field called "Selector" in our order records that
libraries can use to track this sort of information. The only thing
they need to be careful about is being consistent in entering and
searching for names or initials of selectors.
We've added a lot of special variable fields to different record types,
especially orders and items, to track information about grants and gifts
and programs and similar things. Putting this kind of information into
special fields, instead of using notes for several different types of
information, makes it easier to work with in Create Lists, both in terms
of searching and in listing fields.
