Network Librarian
Western North Carolina Library Network (WNCLN)

WNCLN is an established and successful consortium comprised of the libraries of Appalachian State University (ASU), in Boone, NC, the University of North Carolina at Asheville and Western Carolina University, in Cullowhee, NC. WNCLN consists of a shared Innovative Interfaces Inc. integrated library system, the ABC Express delivery service that runs among the libraries three days a week, and an administrative web portal for the network. WNCLN is noted for the very collegial shared governance structure with broad participation among the library faculty and staff from the three libraries. The Network Librarian is an active participant in network planning and committees and reports to the Chair of the WNCLN Executive Committee. The Chair is rotated among the three University Librarians, with each serving a two-year term.
The Network Librarian is responsible for the system administration of the integrated library system (ILS) and is the primary liaison with the ILS vendor. The person is also responsible for the administration of the WNCLN budget, supervision of network personnel (1.5 FTE), and the overall management the ABC Express service. The Network Librarian is responsible for keeping member libraries up to date about the new ILS capabilities and developments, for training library staff in the use of new system capabilities, and for promoting awareness of emerging technology trends impacting library services. The person also facilitates communications among member libraries, computer centers, business offices, vendors, other library networks, and user groups. The Network Librarian is based at UNC Asheville, but is expected to visit the other member libraries on a regular basis. The Network budget and this position are administered by Appalachian State University, the fiscal agent for the Network.
The successful candidate must have at least one year’s experience as a system administrator of an integrated library system, preferably an Innovative Interfaces Inc. system; excellent oral and written communications skills; excellent project management skills with a demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously; evidence of the ability to manage budgets and personnel; interest and ability in providing system application training; and web design and scripting skills. An MLS degree from an ALA accredited institution or a minimum of three years managing an integrated library system and a Bachelor’s degree is required. Experience working in an academic library is preferred.

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. Position is available immediately. This is a non-tenure track, twelve-month EPA administrative position with eligibility for rank.
