Title:
Hello
Judy, do you mean the boolean search
criteria? Here's my suggestion:
A
Scenario A -- if you have your materials
categories separated by acqtype:
- to nail down the date, use
odate >=01-01-2003 and odate <=02-28-2003 {you could also use the
"between 1-1-2003 and 2-28-2003" function to specify date), or use rdate
or cat-date (bib-record) if that's what you're after.
- The book categories depend
on how you have them set up. If you mark these categories with
specific acqtypes, you can say specify date range AND acqtype=[whatever
your code is]
Scenario B -- if you have these categories earmarked by fund codes, you
could include the fund-code in your search statement. For example, to get
the list of mystery titles ordered in Jan and Feb.2003,
- your
search statement would look something like this: odate odate
>=01-01-2003 and odate <=02-28-2003 AND fund=mystery [whatever
your fund code is]
- Then, to save this search
strategy (always useful in searches that are needed
repeatedly):
- Another way to get at the same
data: You could also just a search for the date range, and the run
new seaches by category-specific fund-code against the just-completed file of
new titles for your date range.
- If you're using the
text-based -- before typing "s" for search, type "%" and you get a prompt to
save that search strategy. Then name it something that is meaningful to
you.
- If you're using Millenium
-- at the bottom of your search screen, you can click on "save" and then you
get a prompt to save the search there and to name it something meaningful to
your info need.
When you need the same search
later:
- In text-based, before typing in search
criteria, type "%" and you get the list of previously saved search
criteria. Call up the one you want, make the changes as needed for
the updated list, and run your search.
- In Millenium, go to "saved searches" and select
the search strategy you want from there, then click on "search".
The Millenium version of searching is much more user-friendly for updating the
criteria for complex search strategies.
Hope this helps.
Let me know if you have more questions.
Best,
antje

Subject: Selectors for creating a list
I
am having a problem figuring out what selectors I used to create a list
of
new purchases during Jan. and Feb. I want to do the same kinds of
lists
again, but can't quite remember what I did. My lists were by
catagory -
fiction, mystery, science fiction, non-fiction, etc. Is
there a way to see
not just the list that has been created, but also the
selectors used to
create the lisit? My mind is just not functioning
correctly today. Thanks,
Judy
