- Subject: Re: weird OPAC Search Statistics after Phase 2
David,
I went back to your January posting concerning this problem. We
upgraded to Phase 2 on February 14. We saw an immediate doubling of our
OPAC search statistic totals. We reported it to Innovative as c664739.
That call is still open.
I can't say that I've tried running the reports on different days
to see if the daily totals change. However, we're in the same boat as
you all. We use these statistics in our annual reports and are very
concerned about their reliability/usefulness now.

This is sort of a follow-up to my previous e-mail, where I reported
funky
results in the OPAC search statistics and asked if anyone else was
having
the same problem.
The numbers reported via character-based generally match the numbers
reported via the Web Management reports, but sometimes they match
exactly,
and sometimes they don't. Also, let's say I pick a particular day in
the
past week, and run the numbers to see how many OPAC searches there were
on
that day. Well, if I run the report tomorrow, I may get a different
number
for that same date. I don't understand how the number for a particular
day
could change depending on what day I run the statistics.
I would still like to hear from anyone who has experienced similar
weirdness
in the OPAC search statistics. We've decided not to report these
numbers
until we figure out which numbers are correct. But the City has
decided
that we need to run like a business, so we need to be able to track
statistics reliably.

Using the Web Management Reports--Public Catalog Searches, I track how
many
OPAC searches are done per day. Normally, we have somewhere in the
neighbourhood of 1000 to 2000 searches. Starting January 9 (the day
we
upgraded to Phase 2), the number jumped to over 9000. Since then, it
has
generally been in excess of 4000.
Have they changed how these searches are counted? Has anyone else who
has
upgraded to Phase 2 noticed a jump in these statistics?
