I agree that it is easier to create new loan rules for materials you loan as well as creating separate patron records for each library you loan to. These patrons do have a separate patron type in our system. It's best if you don't have to change anything in the item record and with a loan rule, you can be sure that an overdue notice is sent to the borrowing institution if the item becomes overdue.Additionally, you might consider changes to your request rules. We do not allow requests made to items which we have loaned out to another library, mostly because it is just about impossible to recall these types of materials in time.

We have a loan rule and a patron type for ILL. Our ILL libraries have
separate patron records. This beats having to remember to change the
Itype each time an item goes out or comes in for ILL.Hope that this helps.
