- Subject: RE: Compiling with Perl on a network drive
Thanks for replying! In the meantime I've figured out how to switch to the
S: drive from C:. So long since I'd used DOS that I'd forgotten how simple
it is.
I downloaded the perl2exe software and got it to run, but I have another
silly question, and that is now that I can make it work, how exactly do I
use it? For instance, if I have a text file I want to compile, how would I
use perl2exe to do it?
Thanks again,
Jane

Another way to distribute your perl scripts is to change them into
executable files, then you don't need to worry whether someone else has
perl installed appropriately on their end, or explain to them how to get
the command prompt on a network drive. You can set up a shortcut for
the user and they just run it by clicking on it. We use perl2exe, which
is available for $49 from http://www.indigostar.com/perl2exe.htm

Subject: Compiling with Perl on a network drive
Is it possible to get Perl to work on a network drive? I've been using
Perl
scripts to compile booklists and would like to set it up so that others
can
do it on their own.
So far I've only been able to use Perl from the C: prompt on the desk
computer I'm using. I suspect there is some gap in my understanding of
how
these things work. I've downloaded Perl and installed in on the S:
network
drive we share in the library, but when I go to the command prompt it is
always C: and I don't know how to change it to S: drive. We are using
Windows 2000.
Sorry that this is a rather muddled explanation!
