Has anyone developed a policy yet that outlines what is retained and for how long? I've been assigned to do that for our library and I'd rather not reinvent the wheel if someone else has done so. Many libraries have policies for paper document retention, but I haven't seen any for electronic data.

I guess I think that the conversations around this just highlight how
important it is to:
1. Preserve only that data which is necessary for the running of the
institution (including excellent backups).
2. Make sure that when sensitive, confidential information is no longer
needed it is completely and properly eliminated from the system.
3. Be sure that systems and training are adequate to protect the information
while it is needed for operations.
