Reference Librarian & Information Consultant for Urban & Public
Affairs
Assistant Professor/Full-time, 12-month, tenure track
General Description:
Portland State University is seeking a progressive and energetic professional
for the position of Reference Librarian & Information Consultant for
Urban & Public Affairs. The professional in this exciting position provides
reference services for the University’s faculty and students as well as citizens
of the community, participates in a dynamic instructional program, participates
as a consultant or collaborator with scholars in specific academic units,
and selects information resources to support the instructional and research
needs of the students and scholars of the University. This position reports
to the Assistant Director for Public Services.
Specific Responsibilities:
· Participates at the Reference Station in the Research & Learning
Center, providing reference services for the University’s faculty and students
as well as citizens of the community.
· Participates in instructional activities, collaborating with scholars
to create meaningful learning experiences for students. Contributes to the
activities and initiatives of the Instruction Team.
· Participates as a consultant or collaborator with scholars in the College
of Urban & Public Affairs, overseeing the Library’s communications and
activities with the College. Specific units in the College include Administration
of Justice, Political Science, Public Administration, Community Health, and
Urban Studies & Planning. Collaborates with professionals in the Millar
Library who are also contributing to these efforts.
· Selects books, serials, databases, and other information resources to
support the instructional and research needs of the students and scholars
of the University.
· Contributes to Ask A Librarian and other virtual reference services.
· Maintains up-to-date expertise via participation at workshops and in
professional associations.
· Contributes to the work of relevant committees and workgroups in the
Millar Library and the PSU community of scholars.
· Contributes to the work of professional associations, locally, regionally,
and nationally.
· Contributes to relevant scholarly activities.
Qualifications:
· American Library Association accredited Master’s degree in Library or
Information Science is required.
· Effective communication skills and commitment to service are essential.
· Ability to work and collaborate effectively with colleagues in the Millar
Library as well as with the University’s faculty and students. Excellent
interpersonal skills.
· Flexible and adaptable. Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment.
· Working knowledge of digital technologies and Web-related applications.
· Academic degree in one the above disciplines or in the social sciences
is required. Graduate degree in an area relevant to this position is desirable.

with a minimum annual 1.0 FTE salary of $44,460. Anticipated start date

and staff tuition rates. Librarians are members of the Academic Faculty
and participate in the Faculty Senate

Information Consultant and Coordinator of
Distributed Learning & Electronic Resources
Assistant Professor/ Full-time, 12-month, tenure track
General Description:
Portland State University is seeking a progressive and energetic professional
for the position of Information Consultant and Coordinator of Distributed
Learning & Electronic Resources. The professional in this exciting position
provides reference and instructional services for the University’s faculty
and students as well as citizens of the community, participates as a consultant
or collaborator with scholars in a specific academic unit, and coordinates
activities and initiatives related to distributed learning and electronic
resources.
Specific responsibilities:
· Coordinates the activities and initiatives related to distributed learning
and distance education. Works and collaborates with colleagues in the Millar
Library and on the campus to support and promote distributed learning. Engages
in the design, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of services to meet
the needs of distant learners in a variety of settings.
· Serves as the key liaison to the Offices of Extended Studies and Distance
Education.
· Collaborates with virtual reference services as well as Interlibrary
Loan & Document delivery in the formulation of policies and procedures
to support distance learners.
· Oversees work on license agreements, arranges trials, negotiates and
monitors contracts with vendors, maintains records of purchases, and evaluates
new and existing electronic resources.
· Works with Cataloging and Serials to attain and promote a seamless integration
of electronic resources into the Millar Library’s array of information resources.
· Collects and analyzes usage data for electronic resources.
· Maintains the Millar Library’s electronic journal web pages and other
finding aids to electronic resources.
· In collaboration with the Serials librarian, works with serial aggregators
to provide access to electronic journal packages.
· Participates at the Reference Station in the Research & Learning
Center, providing reference services for the University and community patrons.
· Participates in instructional services, working with the Instructional
Coordinator and other colleagues in the Millar Library to enhance these services,
including the provision of instructional technology support and coordination
of online library courses.
· Participates in the selection of resources and liaison support for at
least one academic area. Participates in the Information Resources Management
Council as a representative of this/these assignments.
· Maintains up-to-date expertise via participation at workshops and professional
associations.
· Contributes to the work of relevant committees and workgroups in the
Millar Library and the PSU community of scholars.
· Contributes to the work of professional associations, locally, regionally,
and nationally.
· Engages in relevant scholarly activities.
