- Subject: Z39.50 server settings
Hello,
I read the "Melvyl and Z39.50 ISBN" email with great interest.
We are new to using the Remote search capabilities and setting up
connections to other Z39.50 servers.
After reading the manual I understand that I need to gather certain
information about the remote system (e.g., its IP address and the search
attributes that it supports) into the INNOPAC file that lists the known
Z39.50 servers.
I set up access for our staff to one site that is not among the
"pre-installed" servers. We contacted that site to get their settings and
fortunately enough, they were another III site, so the search attributes
went okay.
Is this pretty much the way its done? Do you have to contact each site and
ask for their settings and search indexes?
