This is not entirely true. We have a 3m self-check unit and our
barcodes are on the inside back cover. When the system is installed the
install rep places the correct sticker on the front of the unit and
chooses the correct on-screen graphic that shows patrons how to open the
book to scan the barcode.
Still, I would vote for outside cover for any library that is either
just starting to barcode or rebarcoding. Just make sure to get really
high quality barcodes that are as strong and as thin as you can get. It
is worth the initial extra expense.
