I hope the enhancement is submitted as an option and not a total switchover.
Why?
1 - I get patron data from our registrar on diskettes which I load into my
PC with an unzip. The INNOPAC FTS gets them from the PC, so it is not on a
scheduled basis; it is whenever I get the diskettes and put the data on my
PC (irregular days and times).
2 - After preprocessing, I run a load in TEST mode. This gives me an error
report of duplicate records. Circulation searches for a patron by barcode,
but unfortunately I cannot get them to do a name search on a regular basis
if the patron barcode does not show up in our system (we have records
without barcodes from the registrar's data). So we end up with some
duplicate patron records. I can then merge duplicate patron records BEFORE
the load so additional duplicates will not be created and records will be
overlaid properly. Therefore I would never want a process to go directly
from pre-processing to load.
3 - On the other hand, I would not mind a scheduled load (last step only),
similar to unattended backup. That way, I could ask the system to run the
file load at 3 a.m. or whatever. Currently I load during the day, which
does slow down the system some, since a lot of stuff is going through the
transaction file.

I'm asking Innovative to automate the FTS, pre-processing, and processing of
patron records loaded using the Read/Write marc records menu. Libraries
would still need to get their files into one of the four acceptable formats
and into an FTP file, but this enhancement would go get that FTP file on a
scheduled basis, pre-process it, and then load it. It would also email a
given email address with event notification.
Please email me directly if you are interested in this functionality. I will
submit this request and a list of libraries interested to Innovative on
Monday September 9. Please respond by then.
