Hi Julie,
That's been everyone's first question...no one is leaving. Since we
had such a hard time with trying to fill a serials librarian position we
rethought it all..and we reorganized technical services. Basically
we split serials from acquisitions, which allows each area to have
its own focus. Linda will remain as Head of Acquisitions. Susan
has moved over to become Head of Serials and Processing, but
she will retain cataloging serials. Gordon has a title change to
Senior Cataloging Librarian. We then needed to fill a full time
cataloging slot. Administratively, I will head Cataloging but I do not
forsee doing much actual cataloging. Gordon, Lynn and the new
cataloging librarian will fulfill that role.
You know I'm sure that Melissa left to go back to Boston. We were
able to upgrade that position to Grade 16, as the Serials and
Processing Supervisor position. The position is under Susan, and
is in charge of coordinating serials check-in, bindery and
processing. (Plus, the position comes with a new office--no window-
-but an office). The position is advertised on HRs website if you are
interested.
Tech services moved back into the newly renovated quarters last
week. Have a few things to move back upstairs, but it looks really
nice with new paint and new carpet. Much more open. You'll have
to come by and see the transformation.
Hope all is going well. Enjoy your few more weeks before going
back to the books. Never heard anything from the person at
Maryland, so let me know how it went.
Take care,
Virginia

Okay, Virginia, who's leaving? Or are you making the contractor position
permanent?
