Head, Library Systems Department
University of Arkansas Libraries

The Head, Library Systems Department, is responsible for managing and overseeing operations of the Department. The Department maintains servers for the Libraries’ Innovative Interfaces, Inc., integrated library system (InfoLinks), the Libraries’ web server, a software applications server, and an Altiris imaging server. It is responsible for 300 library staff and public computers and peripherals in the main library and four branch libraries; computer literacy training; providing technical advice and research for new library initiatives; monitoring and troubleshooting the Library network; and planning and coordinating network upgrades in the main and branch libraries.

The Head is also responsible for hardware and software support of the InfoLinks systems in coordination with functional coordinators, serves as backup for login/password maintenance, provides overall tracking of system problems reported by the vendor, documents system and software configurations, coordinates installation of new releases, participates in national and state users’ groups and listserv discussions, and maintains contact with other local III sites.

The Head represents the Department at the Library Cabinet, is the library contact with campus and state computing departments, and participates in computing initiatives with other libraries. Reports to the Assistant Director for Collection Management Services and Systems and supervises a department of 3 FTE staff and .5 FTE students.

Qualifications: Required: bachelor’s degree in appropriate field; three years’ operational experience with the Innovative Interfaces, Inc., library system; four years’ satisfactory experience in an academic library, including at least two years’ satisfactory management of a systems operation of comparable size. Preferred: experience in organizing and presenting systems training programs, understanding of network technologies, experience with digital projects, and a customer service orientation.

Twelve month non-classified appointment. Annual salary: $35,000 minimum. TIAA/CREF and/or Fidelity; 22 days annual leave, tuition reduction, health and dental insurance, and other benefits.
