Greetings all,

We have a series titled A to Z of women. The title of the first and so far
only book we have in the series is A to Z of American women in the visual
arts. At first, neither the series nor the book would come up with a title
search beginning with "A to Z."

Based on my experimenting with the system and on reading various
discussions on this list, it is my understanding that Innopac ignores the A
at the beginning of a title search, so that a search for "A to Z" is
interpreted as a search for "To Z." Since the filing indicator is correctly
set to zero in the 245, Innopac doesn't recognize it as a match. To make
the book searchable by title, I put in a 246 with the title exactly as it
appears in the 245. This time, though, since 246 does not have a filing
indicator, Innopac automatically ignores the A at the beginning. (I
discovered this by accident, after observing that many formatted 505
contents notes have articles after |t yet are still searchable, regardless
of whether or not you include the article in the search.) Of course, on the
browse list, the title shows up as To Z of American women in the visual
arts. But at least it shows up.

The series, however, remains a problem. In the 130 of the authority record
and the 440 0 of the bib, the title is A to Z of women. It will not come
up with a title search of either "A to Z" or "To Z." It will only come up
with a search of "A A to Z." Of course, no patron will ever search this
way. Adding a 246, while awkward, works for the book title, but we don't
really have a comparable field for alternate series title, as far as I
know. What can we do to make this series searchable?

Thank you very much!
