We have been doing something kind of like what you describe here at MSU
since 1998. We also use AFS here. At the time we implemented Innopac, we
contracted with III to modify Innopac so that our users can use their MSU
email IDs and passwords for authentication instead of barcode and PIN for
viewing their records, ILL requests, situations where barcode and PIN
work.

We had to develop a small module that basically queried AFS and returned
success or failure, III had to do the integration into Innopac. I don't see
any way you could do this on your own without III's help in integrating it
into the Innopac software, at least under the current design.

Subject: Using University IDs for patron authentication
