Unfortunately, we have a very coarse level of specifying a subnet mask
for a range of IP addresses. If you are using one of the old, class
domains, you can use an astrisk to specify a subnet. E.g., a class-B
subnet can be specified as "127.99.*.*"

We've been in a classless net (isn't it wonderful?) for almost a decade
now, so the 'correct' way to specify a subnet would allow us to break on
any mask. ("127.99.0.0/16" in the previous example, or even at a finer
grain of specificity: "127.99.232/22")

I think I send this in as an enhancement request every year, but it
isn't a high enough priority. (It is also hard to explain the classless
network address system to those who like the simplicity of the class
address blocks.)
