Barcoding periodicals

Dear III Librarians,

We would like to know what other libraries have done to show periodical 
holdings in the OPAC.

As a new III site, we are discussing barcoding our periodicals (bound volume 
and microfilm backfiles) and then entering item records for each volume.  Or, 
should we simply attach a holdings statement to each periodical title in the 
OPAC?
