   I monitor these numbers, and I marvel at the number of hits that are not associated with OPAC searches in our catalog. The most recent log shows 700 of these logins per day. They come in steadily at all hours of the day and night, and a check for actual OPAC searches at 2AM usually shows nothing. The most telling data comes in the 10 day period when the library is closed for the holidays. At this time, logins outnumber OPAC searches by 100 to 1. It looks to me like the server is being used for some sort of relay purposes - particularly when you check the numbers against a 3rd party DNS identification program and find hundreds of hits from the same ISP provider in another state.
