Yes, and it's a beautiful thing.   It's actually done in the global update
function, not rapid update.  See manual Page # 104006

We need to edit a lot of old records that have odd characters (mostly 
hyphens and @'s) in the 008 field.  I was hoping to rapid update these to a 
blank or fill character, but forgot that there is no way to rapid update 
data in the 008.  We are not yet using Millennium cataloging--my question 
is, can one rapid update 008 data using MillCat?  I couldn't find an answer 
to this in the manual.
